Today, I realized…

…that I still want to become a doctor!!!

I watched Kyuhyun’s segment in “Strong Heart” about “second life” this morning and listened to him talk about the famous car accident they had 3 years ago. Among the 6 people who got hurt, Kyuhyun’s injury was the worst. He had 6 broken ribs which pierced through his lungs, every breath making him one step closer to death. When the doctors saw him, all of them said one thing: “This kid is going to die.”

“If we are going to operate, we have to start from the throat,” the doctors continued. However, Kyuhyun’s father opposed the doctors’ decision, saying, “My son is a singer. If you cut him from the throat, doesn’t it equate to robbing him of his dreams? Even if he survives, how can he continue to live?” The doctors and the father  then ended up in a heated argument.

At that moment, a Chinese doctor, who was advanced in age, stepped into the scene. “I can still remember his name,” Kyuhyun said. The name was Wang Yang Pil. The doctor said he knew of another method to operate, and he would use it on Kyuhyun, so the latter would still be able to sing.

Five months later, Kyuhyun was singing again on stage with the other members, just like nothing happened.

That doctor was definitely a lifesaver, and should I say, a “dream-saver!” Plus,  he reminds me of Dr. House!

Like them, I want to be a doctor. I want to save lives. And I want to protect others’ dreams.

Bonamana 4/11

So here’s the tracklist of Super Junior’s much anticipated 4th album, “미 인 아 (BONAMANA).”

슈퍼주니어 4집 - 미인아 (Type A) Source: YesAsia.com Buy now!

01. 미 인 아 (BONAMANA)
02. 나쁜 여자 (Boom Boom)
03. 응결 (Coagulation)
04. 나란 사람 (Your Eyes)
05. My Only Girl
06. 사랑이 이렇게 (My All Is In You)
07. Shake It Up!
08. 잠들고 싶어 (In My Dream)
09. 봄날 (One Fine Spring Day)
10. 좋은 사람 (Good Person)
11. Here We Go

As any other SuJu fan, I was as eager to listen to their 4th album tracks, so last night, after watching my daily dose of “House MD,” I switched back to my fangirl self again and downloaded the entire album to my iPod. “What a wonderful way to end the day!” The Silent Spectator thought.

However… (NOTE: DON’T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T LISTENED YET TO THE WHOLE ALBUM YOURSELF. YOU MIGHT HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION ABOUT THIS MATTER)

…out of the 11 tracks, I only liked 4:

01. 미 인 아 (BONAMANA)
03. 응결 (Coagulation)
06. 사랑이 이렇게 (My All Is In You) <—– my most favorite
08. 잠들고 싶어 (In My Dream)

Sorry to say, but the 3rd album is still the best for me.

By the way, I just got a phone call from Kpop Lover and learned that we’ve got the same opinion about the “Bonamana” MV, that it’s just like the same old “Sorry, Sorry” black and white/grayscale video. Unfortunately, we were expecting more. The dance moves were awesome, anyway (but not in the chorus part <—- t’was a bit weird). All the same, Kyuhyun’s moves were epic!

Judgment

When it comes to music, I know my judgment so well.

My judgment is often affected by bias and by other people’s comments, so as much as possible I would always want to listen/watch the thing myself and generate my own thoughts before reading anyone else’s.

When I first listened to Super Junior’s newest single, “Miinah (BONAMANA),” on May 10th, I noticed at once that there was too much auto-tuning [and The Silent Spectator is not a big fan of auto-tune], but the beat and the melody, the combination of their voices, and the entire song in general were oh so beautiful that I didn’t dare listen to it again lest it gets stuck in my head.

Seven hours ago, Super Junior released their song’s official music video. Because of the song’s funky nature, I was expecting some funky choreography (of course!) and a colorful video. Sure enough, Super Junior didn’t disappoint me with the funky choreography, but…

…colorful video? Nah, epic fail!

I liked the video nonetheless. Oh how can I not when Kyuhyun’s got so many parts in it?

Now, I am biased. :(

A Fan’s Letter to a Star (and vice-versa)

Note: This fan is not me.

April 21, 2010

Dear Star,

Hello!!! My name is Jenny, and I’m 13 years old. I know that by the time you read this, you’ve already opened a million of other fan letters, but I don’t care! What’s important is that you’re reading my handwritten message right now, at this very moment! That fact alone is enough to make me jump for joy!

I’m sure you’ve already heard this gazillions of times before, but let me just repeat it myself: You are soooo amazing!!!

Once upon a time, I was so down and depressed and didn’t know what to do when I turned on the TV. And then I saw you! You were singing a Disney song on “Star King!” and you were soooo amazing!!! At once, my mood was uplifted! Ever since that fateful day, I’ve been looking at you as an inspiration. That’s how great you are to me!

All your albums are awesome. When I’m tired or stressed, your voice alone is enough to keep me going. Just listening to your songs makes me believe that someone out there understands how I feel, that someone out there is willing to care. It’s like your voice whispering to my ear, telling me that everything’s gonna be okay.

One time, I read a bit of you and learned that you and I have a lot of things in common. I love computers too! And like you, I’m fond of cats too! I also love swimming and badminton, and most of all, I’m also a fan of Jason Mraz! What a great coincidence! It’s just so nice to know that a star as big as you are shares a lot of common interests with a simple fangirl like me.

To be honest, there are times when I feel that I’m not just a mere fangirl anymore, that I’ve gone beyond that, and that I’m already oh so in love with you! When I come to the right age, I swear to myself, I’m so gonna marry you! Sorry to say this, but it really broke my heart when I saw you with another girl on “MNET Scandal.”

Oh crap, I still have 8 more Algebra problems to solve. Hmmm… I still have lots of things to say, but I think that’s all for now. I promise I will write again very soon! I have an exam on Friday. Could you please pray for me? I’m getting such low grades lately, and it really upsets me. Oh well, never mind, I’m sure my exam will have long been over when you get the chance to read this. I’ll just think of your handsome face, do some spazzing, and blow my troubles away. Forget Algebra!

I will look forward to hearing more of your music! It would be nice if you could write me back, but it’s okay if you won’t. I understand that you’re very busy right now and it’s bad for you to be overstressed. Keep healthy. I’ll continue praying for you every night. You take care always, okay? God bless you! Hwaiting!

Love,

Fan

PS: I’m serious about marrying you! I love you! XOXO

Dear Fan,

Hi, Jenny! Awww, thank you so much for your wonderful message! Yeah, I’ve got other fan letters, and there are lots of them, but I try really hard to read everything one by one. That’s my way of thanking you, fans, for your endless support.

I am amazing? Wow. You have no idea how much that means to me. I promise to work harder so that people could enjoy my music even more. The messages I’m receiving nowadays really do paint a smile on my face especially at this moment when my vocal cords are exhausted and I’m hurting all over from my dance practices. Just reading your kind words takes all the pain away.

Yeah, I love cats and computers, badminton and swimming, and Jason Mraz… He is my hero! Like you, I’m a simple fanboy too!

If I counted correctly, yours is the 16th marriage proposal I’ve encountered this day. He He He! Thank you for all the love and support. I really appreciate it. But as a mature young adult, I must say that you’re still young and there’s so much more you may want to accomplish. There are also a lot of people you’re still going to meet. I love all my fans, and fans should love each other too, so don’t feel bad when you see me with some other fan in “MNET Scandal.” It’s just a program that is meant to entertain. Please don’t take it too seriously.

Judging by your letter, it seems that you spend more time “spazzing” about me than doing your assignments. Being a fan is fine because it’s just one way of expressing a person’s deep appreciation towards another person’s skills and capabilities, and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, there has to be a reasonable limit to it. If you tend to ignore your studies just to “spazz” about me, then you’re not doing anyone any favour. Neither you nor I would benefit from that. I hope you understand that I’m saying all this because I care about you. Yeah, I really do. And I don’t want to be the cause of your demise.

Don’t worry, Algebra is not hard at all. It was actually my most favorite subject in high school. Here’s a tip: Pay attention to the teacher during class no matter how boring or dull he/she is, and when you get home, do your assignments at once while the lesson’s still fresh in your memory. Trust me, it really works!

The fact that you took time out of your day to write to me truly means a lot. The great number of letters I’m receiving lately makes it so difficult to write back on time, and my very busy schedule only permits me to write back to a random few. Sorry for the very late response. If only I had all the time in the world, then I would personally write each of you a letter.

Again, thanks so much for all the love and support. Take care also, and may God bless you more. I’ll pray that you do well in your exams not just in Algebra, but in other subjects as well. I’m sure you can do it! Hwaiting!

Love,

Star

PS: If you really are serious about marrying me, then we’ll see in God’s time. For now, you should study well, finish college, establish a career, and focus on your life. I love all my fans, and they all are important to me. YOU are important to me.

Forty Days: Day 31

Kimmy introduced me to Ian Choe’s music. Ian Choe is a Korean residing in Massachussetts, and is a friend of 2PM’s Nichkhun. Let’s welcome him to YouTube by watching his very first video:

***

I used to think that Goldie is happy because she’s got almost everything a person could dream for: money, parents who are doctors, a big house, iPhone, credit card, etc. But I was wrong. She said that all of these, she doesn’t really want. What she really wants is to be best at something so that people won’t compare her with others anymore. Her parents always compare her with her brother who’s always a dean’s lister, and the college org which she handled before always compares her with the new president who managed to grab them an award for community service—one thing Goldie failed to do during her term.

During a lunch date at McDonald’s with Kpop Lover and Audrey last week, we talked about our dreams and the means on how to achieve them. We also talked about our sad issues and who may be the saddest person in our dorm.

I thought of all of my dormmates and realized that each of them is sad in one way or another. Veronica is sad because she’s not close with her parents and as a result, can’t open up her feelings to them. Goldie is sad because she’s always being compared with her siblings and orgmates. Unni is sad because there are a lot of things to do and too little time on her hands. Kpop Lover is sad because her mom expects her to watch over her little brother and take responsibility for their pharmacy. Audrey is sad because she still doesn’t have a US visa. Jobie is sad because she’s leaving for the States on July and will have to leave her non-US-citizen mom behind. Ruffa and Gretchen are still a mystery to me but I think they’re sad too.

While I was sweeping the floor just moments ago, I thought all those things over, and realized that even though I’m not rich like most of them, I may actually be the happiest person in the dorm.

Kpop Lover flew to Manila tonight. Tomorrow, she and her family will be flying not to Korea but to Thailand.

Forty Days: Day 29

The Silent Spectator is genuinely happy for Jay Park. :)

Jay Park, the former leader of Korean boyband 2PM, has just created a YouTube account and uploaded his very first video. In less than 24 hours, he already got a million hits and thousands of subscribers. His is actually the most viewed video in the whole wide world today! That’s really amazing! It’s even worthy of a Guinness!

As almost all Kpop fans know, Jay Park (a.k.a. Park Jaebeom) left Korea last year because of the accusations of numerous antifans and press people who exposed his MySpace comments from years ago which spoke about his dislike of Korea. FYI, those comments were made by him when he was still adjusting to the new environment in Korea after arriving from the States where he was born and raised. Hence, those comments were just normal for kids like him, and should in no way be taken seriously. But those netizens and press people were just so annoying!

Now, Karma has taken its course. The world that once turned its back on Jay is now sympathizing with him and supporting him in every way. He’s got even more YouTube subscribers than 2PM! Things are only getting better for Jay Park. Greatness awaits him.
